Our Customer Spotlight: AIESEC Cambodia

Sovanda CHHOUR

As a space rental company, we have helped a variety of customers organizing events within our space. Among those, there is AIESEC Cambodia, a youth-run organization that gathers dynamic Cambodian youth from distinct universities and diverse backgrounds. We are astonished by their work and curious about what they are working on. Therefore, we decided to ask AIESEC Cambodia for a quick chat.

InterviewerHello, Virak! Thank you for joining us.

Virakboth: Thank you for having me!

Interviewer: Before we dive in, please briefly introduce yourself to our readers!

Virakboth: My name is  Virak Both, currently a Sales & Account Executive of AIESEC Cambodia.

Interviewer: Thank you for a quick self-introduction! Can you tell us a bit about what AIESEC is and why it was founded?

Virakboth: AIESEC is a global platform for youth to explore and expand their leadership potential. AIESEC’s vision is to achieve peace and the fulfillment of humankind’s potential. It all started back to when AIESEC was established in 1948 after World War II, where 7 youth across 7 nations had a dream of building cross-cultural understanding across nations. Through this cross-cultural understanding, they aspire to make the world a better place while also offering a helping hand for youth to develop their potential. Currently, AIESEC is in more than 120 countries and territories including AIESEC Cambodia.

Interviewer: To achieve its vision, what does AIESEC provide to its members?

Virakboth: Well, by being a part of AIESEC, I, myself believe that AIESEC members can gain a lot of benefits because they are being exposed to various opportunities that are exclusively made available to them. Those opportunities include being a part of the conference committee or an organizing committee of AIESEC events. On top of that, AIESEC members will have the opportunity to delegate members from other countries during their stay in the host countries as well. In a nutshell, if AIESEC members are willing to invest their time and effort to learn and develop themselves, it is undeniable that they will be able to break out of their bubbles to build their confidence and expand their network.

Interviewer: Can you raise up one project that AIESEC Cambodia is currently organizing or organized in the past?

Virakboth: We are currently organizing a virtual mental health event which is called you matter . This event aims to generate an understanding of mental health, encouraging people to speak up and mobilizing efforts to combat stigma and support in mental health. Through sessions conducted by speakers who are the experts, we believe the people will be able to understand the importance of mental health and create impacts by speaking up about mental health to reduce stigma in our society.

Interviewer: Is there any challenges that AIESEC Cambodia has faced or currently facing?

Virakboth: Regarding challenges, I think that we have faced a variety of challenges especially with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because most of our events and projects are done physically. Therefore, due to the outbreak, we either have to postpone our event or put our events on hold until further notice, so when we pause our operation, we don’t do anything much and that is a challenge for us.

InterviewerLast question is do you have any message for  our readers who want to be part of AIESEC?

Virakboth: AIESEC recruits new members in December, which is our main recruitment and we also have other recruitment such as pocket recruitment and sub-main recruitment around July as well. Therefore, I recommend those who want to be a part of us to follow our Facebook page, AIESEC Cambodia. for further information about us.
